Throughout my walk with God (and yes, I am guilty of it too!) I have heard the following phrases, “God be with us in this place” or “Be with us in our travels.” “Be with me while I make this decision.” What does that say about all the other times? Where IS God? We can simply turn to The Word to find out!

Psalm 73:23-24 tells us “Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.”

Joshua 1:9 says: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Perhaps my favorite are the promises found in Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness’; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

Instead of praying that God will come to us or be with us during a certain time, (because we know He is always with us) a better sentiment might be “Lord, let me feel your presence here today.” or “Lord, thank you for always being with me.” Or even, “I pray that I will trust your promises and know that you are here with me during this time of discernment.”

How wonderful is it that we never have to be alone? God is there supporting us; lifting us up in every single moment, not just when we cry out. In fact, NOTHING will ever separate us from God’s transformative presence (Romans 8:38-39), how cool is that?!

Yes, God is always with us, in us, and around us. Last weekend was uplifting in Montana, too. All of my sibs were there, and Mom noticed the house seemed a lot smaller with six of us in it, but then we’re all bigger now, too. The baby grand in the kitchen (It’s wide open to the living room.) is still the same size… So is the Big Sky… High, Wide and Handsome, too.

Thank you, Carley, for sharing your thoughts about the expression “God be with us” so effectively. You put into words, accompanied by Bible references, what I have felt too. It is good to be reminded of how precious is the fact that He will be with us and in us forever.
