Letter to My Grandchildren

Dear Juliet and Richard,

I’ve had so many memorable and defining life moments but there are two that stand out above all of the rest. Becoming a grandmother, two times over was definitely the best ever!

I’m sure you’ve heard about how excited I was to become your grandmother, so excited I nicknamed myself Gma Chris and shouted it from the highest hill top. When we welcomed you to our family, my heart swelled with so much love and my thoughts flashed forward to all the adventures we were going to have together. I was instantly besotted and thrilled beyond words.

It’s been such an incredible journey and privilege to watch each of you grow and develop your own unique personalities. I am fascinated, mesmerized and in awe of the people that you have become. It’s been such a pleasure to “hold your hands” and help you navigate this marvelous world in any little way that I could. I want you to know that I will always be here for you, and in doing so, would like to share with you some of my life lessons. Use them as a guide and you just might find happiness, fulfillment and even success.

My golden rule in life is to have fun! Life is not a dress rehearsal, so don’t waste your precious time doing things that don’t light you fire. Do what you enjoy and enjoy what you do. Great things will follow.

Don’t let your head always rule your heart. Life’s more fun when you say yes, so dream big and say yes to your heart’s desires. Dreaming is one of our greatest gifts so look at the world with wide-eyed enthusiasm and believe you are strong enough to confront any problems that come your way.

Never, ever betray your dreams for the sake of fitting in. Instead, be passionate about them. Passion will help you stay the course and inspire others to believe in you and your dreams too. The world’s greatest accomplishments have been driven by passionate people, those not willing to give up on their dreams. Passionate people spur change that moves this world forward.

Remember to always treat others like you would like to be treated. Always be nice, always be caring, always be kind. Always be tolerant of other people’s beliefs and opinions. Be yourself and open with everyone around you, especially your parents. They will always be there for you willing to share in your adventures, support your decisions and love you unconditionally.

Above all, love and know that you are loved! Love is the greatest gift you can ever give or receive. You came into a family that loves you to the moon and back again…..never forget that! You are beautiful for you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139:14)

Hugs & Kisses,

Gma Chris

Proverbs 17:6 (NLT)

Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children.
