As a church family, we want to be sure everyone has an opportunity to grow in their faith and create great friendships – beyond just Sunday mornings. So, in keeping with our core value #3: “We will venture together on a hopeful journey into healing, overflowing life through Christ,” we created Venture. Venture is an unique, special time to connect with others, worship the Lord, and go deeper in our walk with God.
We meet every other Wednesday for a total of seven times.
Sept 11 & Sept 25
Oct 9 & Oct 23
Nov 6 & Nov 20

5:30pm – 6:15ish pm – Dinner in Krueger Hall – A catered meal served buffet style with kid-friendly options.
6:15pm – 6:45pm – Worship & Prayer – We will move into the sanctuary for an intimate time of worship and prayer.
6:45pm – 8:00pm – Adult & Youth Studies, Venture Kids
Ephesians: A life-changing encounter with God’s Word (4:00 pm – 5:30 pm)
If you have not participated in actual Bible study before, this is a very good place to start – a seven session study of the first half of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. If you have experienced Bible study and found it very edifying, this study is perfect for you, too. Discover the strength of God’s Spirit to help you live and believe in harmony with God and others. Participants can stay for dinner and worship. Open to everyone. Led by Carolyn Fish & Linda Lemkau. Meets in the Lakeside Room. NavPress workbook required
LOVE1st 101 (6:45pm – 8:00pm)
Open to anyone interested in finding out more about 1stPres, our mission, history and vision for the future – and how you can become a part of it! This is a great way to become more engaged with the life of the church, and is a must if you’re seeking membership. Led by Pastor Craig Sumey. Meets in the Conference Room.
The Good and Beautiful Life (6:45pm – 8:00pm)
If Pastor Craig’s sermon series on the Good and Beautiful Life tweaked your interest, this study is for you. We will meet with other adults in a small group to discuss James Bryan Smith’s wonderful study about putting on the character of Christ. Open to everyone. Led by Wendy Wilson. Meets in the Fireside Room. Good and Beautiful Life book required.
Guys Hanging Out – A Men’s Study (6:45pm – 8:00pm)
Due to one of our leaders bailing (Steve Balas decided to work with our youth instead of us) we are pivoting on the direction for men’s group during Venture. We are going to be a little more easy going in our approach. We might just call the group Guys Hanging Out but we aren’t going to even decide that until we get together on the first night and hear what people want to do – and we see where God is leading us. Show up the first night and you can help shape our future. Led by Brad Andrysiak and Rob Blackston.
Broken Crayons Still Color – A Women’s Study (6:45pm – 8:00pm)
Many times what we see as our biggest regrets, failures and mistakes become what God uses the most in our lives. God transforms our brokenness into something more beautiful than we can even imagine. He takes our mess and creates a masterpiece. You see, broken crayons still color. We’re excited to have you join us on a unique 7- week (short) book and video study that will inspire you with real stories of how God can take our broken crayons and create a masterpiece. Open to all women. Led by Lynn Sumey and Niki Piekarski. Meets in the Lakeside Room.
DYG – The Downtown Youth Group (6:45pm – 8:00pm)
This is for middle-school and high-school students. Everyone will be together for the meal time, games and activities. Then during, small-group time, we will separate for focused discussion topics about our life with God. Led by Josh Wagner and co-leaders.
NEW PROGRAM! Venture Kids (6:45pm – 8:00pm)
During the fall session of Venture, we will be featuring a brand new children’s program! We will be studying “The Lamb” by John R. Cross. “The Lamb” is an engaging journey through the Bible. Starting with the creation of the universe, it explains key biblical concepts: Who is God? What is God like? What is sin? Where did evil come from? Why do we need a Savior? The goal for the fall session is that the children attending will have a clear explanation of the identity of Jesus and his amazing provision as our Savior. We will follow our lesson time with an activity or time to explore our weekly topic further through art, experiments and discussion.
Venture Tots (6:45pm – 8:00pm)
Potty-Trained thru Elementary Schoolers will have child care available to them for the evening studies only. There is no cost, but prior registration is required.
Even if you are not interested in attending one of the classes, we strongly encourage you to come and join us for the meal and/or worship & prayer time. It’s an awesome opportunity to spend time with God, and fellowship with your church family!
To facilitate planning, we are asking for everyone to sign up in advance for the entire seven session season. But you are welcome to sign up for only the parts you want, so you can elect to:
- Go only to your class,
- Go only to the meal and worship time,
- Go to your class AND the meal and worship time!
To pay by PayPal or credit card go here.
Classes – Cost to register for a class is only $10 for materials. Couples registering together may elect to share materials.
Meals – The meals will be catered by local restaurants, so it is important for us to have an accurate head count and payment in advance. The cost for all seven meals will be $50 per person (that’s about $7.14 per meal). Kids middle school and under eat for free, and there is a family maximum of $150 for those with older children.
Guests – Guests are very welcome, but if they are going to participate in meal time, they need to be registered by the Sunday prior so we can ensure food is ordered for them. The cost is $7.50 per adult for individual meals.
Register here. Registration is required to participate in the meals, classes or children’s programs.
