As a church family, we want to be sure everyone has an opportunity to grow in their faith and create great friendships – beyond just Sunday mornings. So, in keeping with our core value #3: “We will venture together on a hopeful journey into healing, overflowing life through Christ,” we created Venture. Venture is an unique, special time to connect with others, worship the Lord, and go deeper in our walk with God.

We meet every other Wednesday for a total of six times:

February 12 & 26
March 11 & 25
April 8 & 22

5:30pm – 6:15ish pm – Dinner in Krueger Hall – A catered meal served buffet style with kid-friendly options.

6:15pm – 6:45pm – Worship & Prayer – We will move into the sanctuary for an intimate time of worship and prayer.

6:45pm – 8:00pm – Adult & Youth Studies, Venture Kids

LOVE1st 101 (6:45pm – 8:00pm)

Open to anyone interested in finding out more about 1stPres, our mission, history and vision for the future – and how you can become a part of it! This is a great way to become more engaged with the life of the church, and is a must if you’re seeking membership. Led by Pastor Craig Sumey. Meets in the Conference Room.

The Good and Beautiful Community (6:45pm – 8:00pm)

We will meet with other adults in a small group to discuss the third book in James Bryan Smith’s Apprentice Series. He helps us know how to live in relationship with others as apprentices of Jesus. Open to everyone. Led by Carolyn & Bob Fish. Meets upstairs in the Hunter Conference B.

Stepping Up – A Men’s Study (6:45pm – 8:00pm)

A short-term, evening men’s group that will be six sessions of laughter, growth, sharing, encouragement, accountability, prayer, and fellowship. We will be studying that amazing book we call The Bible, and discovering simple ways to dig deeper into its truths and find daily, practical application for our lives. Open to all men. Led by Brad Andrysiak and Rob Blackston. Meets upstairs in the Lakeside Room.

My Name is Victorious – A Women’s Study (6:45pm – 8:00pm)

We all have names we carry around with us. Some of them are wonderful: Friend or Loved One. We wear those names with pride. Other names, not so much. We’ve embraced names like: Not Enough, Unqualified, Damaged, Depressed, and Overwhelmed. We don’t have to identify with those names any longer. Join us on a unique 6-week study, selected by the Fall Venture group, that will inspire you. Open to all women. Led by Lynn Sumey. Meets upstairs in the Hunter Conference A.

DYG – The Downtown Youth Group  (6:45pm – 8:00pm)

This is for middle-school and high-school students. Everyone will be together for the meal time, games and activities. Then during, small-group time, we will separate for focused discussion topics about our life with God. Led by Steve Balas and co-leaders.

 Venture Kids  (6:45pm – 8:00pm)

The Kids’ Travel Guide to the Armor of God is a Scripture-based exploration that will lead your child into a faith so bold they’ll be able to stand firm in the midst of difficult or unclear situations. The lessons will help your child explore how to be strong in the decisions they make, and guide them in relationships with others.

We will study a different piece of armor each Venture class day. Activities include:

  • Play-acting and story excursions to bring the Armor of God to life
  • Applying the lessons through games and activities
  • Creating a travel journal to remind each child of the lesson’s Bible focus

We hope to have your child join us! The program is for Kindergarten through 5th grade students.

Venture Tots  (6:45pm – 8:00pm)

Babies thru pre-Schoolers will have child care available to them for the evening studies only. There is no cost, but prior registration is required.

Even if you are not interested in attending one of the classes, we strongly encourage you to come and join us for the meal and/or worship & prayer time. It’s an awesome opportunity to spend time with God, and fellowship with your church family!

To facilitate planning, we are asking for everyone to sign up in advance for the entire seven session season. But you are welcome to sign up for only the parts you want, so you can elect to:

  • Go only to your class,
  • Go only to the meal and worship time,
  • Go to your class AND the meal and worship time!

Classes – Cost to register for a class is only $10. This covers the cost of any books or materials.

MealsThe meals are catered by a local chef, so it is important for us to have an accurate head count and payment in advance. The cost for all six meals will be $50 per person. Kids (high school and under) eat for free.

Guests – Guests are very welcome, but if they are going to participate in meal time, they need to be registered by the Sunday prior so we can ensure food is ordered for them. The cost is $9.00 per adult for individual meals.

Register here. Registration is required to participate in the meals, classes or children’s programs.
