Resurrection Rolls

Have you submitted a recipe yet for our Deacon sponsored 1st Pres recipe book? So many recipes come with memories. Do you have a favorite memory associated with a recipe? I know I do! You still have time to submit your recipe(s) and this is your chance to share not just a recipe but a memory.

There’s something magical about baking with purpose, especially when it helps tell a story as powerful as the

resurrection of Jesus. My family and I make these for breakfast every year on Resurrection Sunday. I love that this simple and easy recipe reminds my children of the true meaning of Easter.

Resurrection Rolls

A Resurrection roll begins with simple ingredients from the story that serve as essential elements of the narrative. The marshmallow represents Jesus’s body. The dough acts like the linen that the body was wrapped in. The melted butter and various flavors act like the oil and spices sprinkled on Jesus’s body as they prepared Him for burial in the tomb. Finally, your oven acts like a tomb. As the marshmallow melts inside the dough while baking, it leaves behind a hollow center, just like the empty tomb on Easter morning.

✨ Ingredients
  • 1 (8 oz) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 large marshmallows
  • 4 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

🧁 Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a muffin tin or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl. Set aside.
  3. Dip each marshmallow in melted butter, then roll it in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. This represents Jesus being anointed with oils and spices before burial.
  4. Wrap each coated marshmallow in a crescent roll triangle, sealing all edges tightly. This symbolizes the tomb being sealed.
  5. Place the rolls in the muffin tin or on the baking sheet. Optionally, brush the tops with more butter and sprinkle with extra cinnamon sugar.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Open your oven and reveal the rolls; they should have popped open to reveal the surprise: the marshmallow has vanished, leaving an empty “tomb.”
While I realize that Resurrection Sunday was back in April of this year, I also know that the Deacons are gathering recipes for a cookbook. I shared this recipe with my Sunday School students, and I hope your family will enjoy making it too!

Peace & Blessings, Tracee

Tracee- this recipe is such a cool combination of spiritual ideas and cooking science! I love the symbolic connections between the ingredients and the process to the Easter story. It’s especially delightful to learn that it’s a tradition for your family. You’ve inspired me to go through my ‘family tradition’ recipes to consider a Deacon Cookbook submission. Happy summer.
