The Way of Love: A Meditation

Mikal has compiled meaningful quotes and Bible verses that describe what love is. As we strive to always Love 1st, these are beautiful reminders of how we can show and feel love.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
  John 13:34-35

“They’ll know we are Christians by our love.”
  Father Peter Scholtes

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.”
I Corinthians 13:1-3

“There is only one who is all powerful, and his greatest weapon is love.”
 Stan Lee

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.”
 I Corinthians 13:4-6

“The greatest moments in life are not concerned with selfish achievements but rather with the things we do for the people we love and esteem.”
Walt Disney

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
I Corinthians 13:7

“Whoever loves much, performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well.”
Vincent Van Gogh

“Love never ends.”
I Corinthians 13:8(a)

"Listening is where love begins."
Fred Rogers

So now abide these three; faith, hope, and love… and the greatest of these is love.
I Corinthians 13:13

“When we love a person, we accept him or her exactly as is: the lovely with the unlovely, the strong with the fearful, the true mixed in with the façade…"
Fred Rogers

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
John 15:12

“If every single man is not an individual, deserving respect, simply by being human, then all is lost and it is not worth the trouble to hear about the great world-historical events and the achievements of mankind are meaningless.”
Søren Kierkegaard

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13

“That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt, a real superhero.”
Stan Lee

“These things I command you, so that you will love one another.”
John 15:17

“I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.”
Vincent Van Gogh

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
Matthew 22:37-40

“We speak with more than our mouths. We listen with more than our ears."
Fred Rogers

These words are wonderful reminders to all of us as society appears to have become more self centered. Thank you Mikal for these words and also all
you do for all of us!

Thank you, Mikal. Since my train of thought derailed Sunday after the services, I remembered where I was headed, with Rev. Craig Hall's service message featuring music interludes by the Rockin' B Ranch musicians, who arrived and we introduced ourselves. A young man walked in while they were setting up, I introduced myself and he reciprocated before sitting in a back pew. Afterward, I asked him about the service, and he told me that as expected, no one sat near him or said a word to him. He was wearing tattoo sleeves, an old army jacket with chains and a 'do rag', biker costume as a prop to make the point of that Sunday's message. A nice mellow guy playing a part... (Having built plastic model kits, I recognized the chains were chromed plastic, not heavy steel. 'You can't judge a book by its cover," yet it's so easy to do, and miss the good.
