I have been thinking about my blog for days. The topic kept shifting.

I’ve been reading a book written by Dr. Edith Eger, The Choice. She is a woman who lived through the horrors of the Holocaust. The story is an inspiring account of survival. I could have gone with that and written about hope and healing in light of what’s going on now. But…

I set those thoughts aside when I became one of the many who contracted the Corona virus this past week. Plans change. So, with so much negative news and events how can we shift our thinking?
…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8
​So I thought that instead of dwelling on my aches and pains, I should share this list I found of eight things to think on. Good things to think on.
  1. True things. Like the fact that God loves you and has given you a great gift--called “life.”
  2. Noble things. Like saying things respectfully to your elders and finding words that compliment your children’s accomplishments.
  3. Right things. Like doing the right thing, even when you feel like doing something you know might hurt someone else.
  4. Pure things. Which means examining your motives and doing things without a personal or hidden agenda.
  5. Lovely things. As in, “Things that promote brotherly love.”
  6. Admirable things. The word here means, “Things that will cause others to say, ‘that was so well-said!’”
  7. Excellent things. Things that reflect virtue.
  8. Praiseworthy things. Things people will praise.​

It’s difficult to focus on the good if our heads are filled with what is bad. On the other hand, our head can’t be filled with ‘news blues’ if our minds are filled with true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy thing! Dr Eger found a way to to turn horror into healing and forgiveness. Can we do less?

So, as I recover from my bout of COVID and pray for my friends who are also afflicted, I WILL spend my days thinking positive thoughts. I will hope and pray for a better, loving and healthy world.

I’m so sorry you are among those of us with COVID! Thank you for sharing the positive outlook which we all need to be reminded of these days! God has certainly wrapped His loving arms around me through this time. I pray for your strength and healing in these next days. Thank you for sharing those encouraging words.

I was also sorry to hear you were one of the Choir devotees who was given the adventure of Covid. Sending positive thoughts for a mild case and speedy recovery! And your blog is "right on". We all need to focus on the positives in our lives right now --- perhaps the message this pandemic was sent for is to for all of God's people worldwide to think positively; look at the beauty in the world; apprecitiate our friends and family; and to center ourselves on our many blessings! Thank you, Janet, for reminding us!
