God's Love For Us

I grew up with a family Bible on display in our entryway. It sat opened on a special wooden stand from The Holy Land. Mom would turn the pages to different stories.  I have no idea what translation that Bible would have been. It was not one that ever left the house. The children didn’t touch it without permission.

I remember the thrill of receiving my own copy of The Living Bible. It was so much easier for me to understand. That’s when

I began underlining and highlighting and writing in the margins.

Facebook has a feature that will show me my “memories” from each day over the past years. This week I saw a picture I had posted of scripture my Dad had copied down.  What a joy for me to see his distinct left handed script. And what a treasure to know that he also liked verses in Romans 8.

Now, I use the Bible Gateway app. I can enter a verse and select a variety of translations to read. Sometimes I like to make the “Heather Translation” by blending some together. This version of Romans 8:38-39 is a mix of the Amplified Bible and the Living Bible:

I continue to be convinced beyond any doubt that that nothing can ever separate us from God’s LOVE for us. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels won’t and all the powers of hell cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears for today or our worries about tomorrow, nothing above us and nothing below us -- nothing in the whole created world -- will be able to separate us from the unlimited love God demonstrated by our Lord Christ Jesus when he died for us. Romans 8:38-39

I am so grateful that my salvation is secure through faith alone. And that there is nothing I can ever do to add to that or take away from it. It is impossible to get beyond God’s loving reach.

In His Name, Heather

What a family treasure to have a Bible that had been shared at your entryway as a reminder of your guidance. And, what a special connection to your father through his handwritten scripture!

Thank you for sharing your story, Heather! The verses from Romans in your dad's handwriting, are some of my favorite verses as well. The story of your family Bible is very special. I now feel like I even know you a little better than before. Thanks so much for sharing!

Heather, I loved your childhood story of the Bible placement in the entry and your father's handwritten verses of Romans. They are some of my favorite verses as well. Thank you for sharing and for all you do. A special thank you for your liking a giggle! ❤️
